Justice, healing, and mercy: The class of 2019

Actor, activist Martin Sheen urges graduating seniors to build lives with meaning

They will be lawyers. They will be teachers. They will work on construction sites and in cubicles. But, without a doubt, armed with a Santa Clara education the class of ’19 is primed to support each other.  And that is what actor and activist Martin Sheen told graduating seniors makes life have meaning.

“Whether we choose to acknowledge it or not we are all responsible for each other and the world,” he said in his speech at Stevens Stadium.

“We are all called to find something in our lives worth fighting for,” he said. “The most important needs of any human being are not only food, clothing, and shelter, but the need for justice, healing, and mercy,” he said. “Without the latter the former are useless.”
